Hyosung HICO and Quanta Services Form Joint Venture to Expand Domestic High-Voltage Circuit Breaker Manufacturing

New Pittsburgh-region venture — Hyosung HICO Breaker, LLC — brings high voltage and extra-high-voltage breaker production up to 800 kV to American soil, with operations targeted to begin July 1, 2026.

Hyosung HICO and Quanta Services, Inc. (NYSE: PWR) today announced a joint venture to manufacture high-voltage circuit breakers in the United States, answering a clear and growing call from the utility, industrial and technology and load center markets for more domestic production of critical power equipment.

The joint venture pairs Hyosung HICO's globally proven breaker technology and manufacturing expertise with Quanta Services —North America's largest power infrastructure solutions provider — and the established U.S. production facility Quanta brings to the venture. The result is additional U.S. capacity for equipment the grid increasingly depends on — and a direct response to the surging electricity demand driven by data centers, electrification and grid modernization.

The joint venture — Hyosung HICO Breaker, LLC — will operate from a refurbished, state of-the-art facility at Quanta’s subsidiary’s manufacturing operation in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The joint venture operations are targeted to begin July 1, 2026, with capability to produce high-voltage and extra-high-voltage circuit breakers rated up to 800 kV.

"America's grid is being asked to do more than ever, and the industry has been clear that it needs more high-voltage equipment built right here at home," said Jason E. Neal, President of Hyosung HICO and Senior Executive Vice President of HICO America. "This joint venture is our answer. It builds directly on the momentum from our Memphis transformer operations — including 765 kV transformers and our recent expansion announcements, which are well underway — and extends that same commitment to domestic manufacturing into the breaker market. When two market leaders bring their best together, the grid wins, and so does American manufacturing." Hyosung Chairman Cho Hyun-joon stated, “The two companies have already built a strong partnership through cooperation across areas ranging from the supply of circuit breakers and substation equipment, to transmission and renewable energy-linked projects,” adding, “As the rapid growth of the AI industry makes power infrastructure advancement the most critical task, we will leverage the successful localization experience of our Memphis plant, our US business operations and the synergies of this joint venture to firmly establish ourselves as a ‘total solution provider’ in the U.S. power market.”

“Quanta has spent decades building the infrastructure that powers this country, and our craft labor expertise, operational depth and manufacturing capability give us a unique ability to bring this joint venture to life. Grid modernization can't wait — and neither can domestic manufacturing. By bringing high-voltage breaker production home with Hyosung HICO, we're strengthening the domestic supply chain, creating American jobs, and delivering greater solutions and certainty to utility, industrial, and technology and load center customers who need a simplified, turn-key answer to their most critical infrastructure challenges — right when the demands of a rapidly electrifying economy make it essential,” said Karl Studer, President of Electric Power, Quanta Services.

A portion of Quanta’s subsidiary’s Canonsburg facility is being redesigned and modernized into a state-of-the-art breaker operation for the joint venture. By localizing production of high-voltage breakers, Hyosung HICO Breaker, LLC will help shorten lead times and strengthen supply-chain resilience for utility, industrial and technology and load center customers across North America. Through the supply of these breakers directly to its customers in the US, as well as to Quanta Services to support their customers, Hyosung HICO will continue to expand its presence and contributions to the US.

These solutions are brought to market by HICO America — Hyosung HICO's sales and marketing arm, established in 2001 — which serves as the commercial home for the company's full power-solutions portfolio, including circuit breakers, power transformers, gas-insulated switchgear, FACTS and DC solutions.

The announcement reflects Hyosung HICO's broader US growth strategy — a sustained, multi-site commitment to domestic manufacturing that now spans large power transformers in Memphis, Tennessee, and high-voltage circuit breakers in the Pittsburgh region.
